How does the Family Education and Counseling Program work ?

The UIM Family Research and Training Institute is offering a 10-month part-time curriculum leading to a Certificate/Diploma in Family Education and Counselling. This self-funded program is designed for students interested in pursuing a vocation in family ministries. This innovative program is built on an experiential approach with a strong focus on clinical practice and supervision. It also integrates professional training with biblical and theological understanding of family issues.

What are the learning outcomes ?

By the end of the course students should be able to demonstrate that they have:

Consolidated and developed skills in family education and counseling
Reflected upon need for family education and counseling
Gained an understanding of models of conceptualization and intervention
Explored biblical perspective of fundamental issues of family relationships

Assessment will be made according to class attendance, reading assignments, practicum and graduation interview

Completion of 5 core subjects + Practicum (240 hours) will earn you a Certificate in Family Education and Counseling (Cert.FEC)

Completion of 5 core subjects + Practicum + 3 electives (312 hours) will earn you a Diploma in Family Education and Counseling (Dip. FEC)

Who can apply for the Course?

Applicants from a variety of professional backgrounds may apply for the program which is designed to meet the diverse training needs of different professional disciplines including those from the fields of religious, mental health, education, social services and other related areas.

Preference for admission is given for those who are currently involved in Counseling.

Course Commences in February, 2010

Students will be advised to complete the curriculum in 10 months. 3-day workshops, 1-day lectures, 1-day skills training, and 3-hour supervisions will normally be conducted on weekday and/or on Saturdays. Special arrangements will be made when necessary or when guest lecturers are invited from overseas.
